Weekly Round-up! |
||||||||
Good Evening Resident,
Firstly I would like to thank everyone who sent in responses to the StreetWatch message we sent out. With an overwhelmingly positive response I think we will keep pressing forward with the scheme, so keep your eyes peeled for future updates. Now Its once again time for your weekly round up of what the city centre teams have been up to.
What’s Been Happening
Arrests – Our city centre officers made 7 arrests this week, with one of them involving an individual who has been linked to multiple shop thefts and also for failing to appear for a court date. Upon arrest this individual then proceeded to assault and emergency worker and generally cause a nuisance of himself. Some of the other offences that offenders were arrested for were unlawfully at large, domestic violence, failing to appear at court and assaulting of emergency workers.
Community Engagement – The Autumn Spruce Up! event held by Wolverhampton City Council was a great success, we had over 100 volunteers from all over Wolverhampton turn out ready to grab a litter picker and get to work clearing up the city centre. With the Uni and McDonalds volunteers in attendance you could really feel a positive atmosphere and everyone's go-getting attitude. A special thank you needs to be extended to the Mayor of Wolverhampton who came down and gave a thoroughly inspiring speech.
Two planned protests this week with countering protests also planned, the first planned event was a no show with officers frequently checking up on the protest location. The second event was attended by roughly 40+ people for both sides, starting at Queen Square and finishing at the Britannia Hotel, it went ahead with no issues to report. PC Moore-Harbach hosted two 'Mind Your Money' events this week with Wolverhampton's BID. These events were held in multiple locations around the city providing people with advice around money and safety advice, also handing out Faraday Pouches and purse bells to lucky attendees. Keep an eye out for further posts regarding her future events.
Team 1 PCSOs Spittle and Holmes hosted a ‘Cuppa with a Copper’ session in Costa Coffee in the Mander Centre today, not the greatest turnout but this is a new venue that we are using, so hopefully the next one will have a better reception.
Guardian Patrols – Along with our usual guardian patrols this week, we had the pleasure of a day of Servator deployments. Officers out and about looking for suspicious individuals or behaviour and also just generally chit-chatting to the public in the city.
Night-Time Economy – No NTE for the City Centre team this week as our earlies landed on Friday and Saturday.
Good News - Sunday saw the city centre team alongside Wolverhampton response hurriedly scurrying through the city centre and surrounding areas looking for a missing 11 year old girl with autism. She has left from the Sunbeam pub in the pouring rain, after trawling through the neighbourhood thankfully we had reports of her being found safe and well at home by a neighbour. Well done to officers for their continued efforts when looking for missing persons.
Community Safety Warning - We are seeing a slow increase in reports of people entering derelict buildings, please talk to your children regarding the below message.
West Midlands Police are urging members of the public – particularly young people – not to enter derelict or abandoned buildings. We understand that these sites can appear interesting or exciting to explore, but they are extremely dangerous. Derelict buildings often contain: Unstable floors, ceilings, and staircases that can collapse without warning Broken glass, sharp metal, and exposed wiring Hazardous materials such as asbestos or chemicals Hidden drops and unsafe roofs Anyone found inside such buildings without permission may also be committing an offence, and officers will take appropriate action to keep people safe.
What to Watch – We do have a few events coming up over the next few weeks including Act On Energy and our little Halloween stand in the Wulfrun Centre. Check out the dates below and keep an eye out for more e-mails from me regarding any updates and where were going to be, any pop-up stands we decide to do will be announced on our Social Media pages so be sure to give us a follow on X.
